THE husband of a local actress has pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court and Magistrates’ Court In Seremban to separate charges of cheating two individuals over alleged arrangements to obtain a non-existent Selangor state land grant and a Datukship title last year.
The accused, Mohd Apri Hazreen Mohd Sapri, 41, entered the pleas after the charges were read before Sessions Court Judge Mohamad Kamil Nizam and Magistrate Nurul Saqinah Rosli on Wednesday.
According to the charge in the Sessions Court, Mohd Apri Hazreen allegedly cheated a 56-year-old man by deceiving him into transferring RM270,811 via online banking to an account belonging to a 35-year-old woman. The payment was purportedly for the acquisition of a Selangor state land grant which did not exist.
Prosecutors stated that the victim would not have made the payment had he not been misled by the accused.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nadia Ezzati Mohd Zainal proposed bail of RM50,000 with one surety, stipulating that the guarantor must not be the accused’s wife, who is listed as a prosecution witness in the case.
The accused, who appeared without legal representation, appealed for a lower bail amount, citing health complications and family responsibilities.
“I have heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and gout. I also have nine children to support, while my wife is a housewife who cares for my mother,” he told the court.
The court subsequently allowed bail of RM25,000 with one surety who must not be his wife. Additional conditions require the accused to surrender his passport, report to a police station monthly, and refrain from contacting prosecution witnesses either directly or through third parties.
In a separate proceeding at the Magistrates’ Court, Mohd Apri Hazreen also pleaded not guilty to another charge of cheating a 49-year-old man into paying RM23,120 in connection with obtaining a Datukship honour that allegedly did not exist.
According to the charge sheet, the accused dishonestly induced the victim to hand over the money, which the victim would not have done had he not been deceived.
The alleged offence took place at an office in Seremban 2 between 22 October and 9 November last year.
The charge is framed under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which provides for a prison sentence of between one and 10 years, whipping, and a possible fine upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nik Nur Aqilah Syarfa Nik Zaidi initially proposed bail of RM7,000 for the second charge. Magistrate Nurul Saqinah Rosli later set bail at RM3,000 and fixed 15 April for the next mention of the case. - March 11, 2026
