A meeting of the District Water and Sanitation Mission was held on Tuesday through video conferencing under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Rupinder Pal Singh.

During the meeting, a detailed review was conducted of the progress of various development works and schemes being implemented in the district under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) Phase-II and the Jal Jeevan Mission.

District Sanitation Officer-cum-Executive Engineer, Water Supply and Sanitation Division III, Charandeep Singh said, under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) Phase-II, funds amounting to Rs 2,518 lakh had been released to 806 gram panchayats in the district for liquid waste management.

He added that Rs 5.43 crore had been provided to 855 gram panchayats for solid waste management. He said 342 solid waste management projects had been completed in the district, while construction work on 96 projects was currently underway. In the field of sanitation, 216 villages had been declared ‘ODF Plus’. Moreover, three plastic waste management projects had been established at the block level for the scientific disposal of plastic waste. A total of 72 community toilets had been constructed for the convenience of rural residents.

Singh said, under the Annual Action Plan 2026–27 of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), a proposal had been made to establish co-treatment systems at existing sewage treatment plants (STPs) in the district at an estimated cost of Rs 42 lakh for the scientific disposal of faecal sludge generated in villages. The meeting also reviewed the functioning of biogas plants established in various ‘gaushalas’ of the district.
