KUALA LUMPUR – The Yang di-Pertuan Agong has consented to defer the pardon application of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to a future Pardons Board meeting, according to the Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister’s Department (BHEUU).
BHEUU said His Majesty made the decision during the 63rd Pardons Board meeting for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya held this morning.
The meeting also saw the Yang di-Pertuan Agong approve the release of 65 inmates.
“The non-citizen prisoners shall be deported and sent back to their countries of origin within six months after being released,” BHEUU said in a statement.
BHEUU said Sultan Ibrahim consented to the release of the inmates on the same day, adding that foreign nationals granted clemency must leave Malaysia and return to their home countries within the stipulated period.
The division also confirmed that His Majesty had agreed to postpone Najib’s pardon application until another Pardons Board meeting is convened. - September 11, 2026
