Kota Kinabalu: The Agong’s younger sister, Paduka Puteri Tunku Mariamz binti Almarhum Al-Mutawakkil Alallah Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj, is visiting Sabah, a significant step in strengthening the relationship between the royal family and Sabah.

While here, Tunku Mariamz, participated in a series of engagements with corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, economic collaboration and community welfare efforts.

Advertisement“This visit will definitely draw national attention to Sabah’s growing appeal as a hub for tourism and economic growth,” said Datuk Koh Chung Jade, who highlighted its importance in boosting Sabah’s tourism, cultural heritage, and investment appeal on a national level.

As part of her visit, Tunku Mariamz also officiated the launch of Dapur Kita-Kita, a community-driven initiative that began operations in December 2024.

Read more In her speech, she commended the collaboration between local chefs and private companies in making Dapur Kita-Kita a reality. The aim is to provide free meals to the less-fortunate at its centre in Bandaran Berjaya.

She acknowledged the contributions of Dewan Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu (DBKK), Jetsin Sdn Bhd, Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), the Sabah Chef Association.

AdvertisementThe initiative currently distributes 200 lunch packs daily to those in need in Kota Kinabalu.

“As of now, over 13,000 lunch packs have been provided, with the help of 300 volunteers. ‘Serving hope, one bowl at a time’ – this is our mission. “It is an honour to have Tunku Mariamz launch this programme, which embodies the generosity, compassion, and community spirit of Sabahans,” said Koh.

Meanwhile, Mayor Dato Sri’ Sabin Samitah, highlighted the initiative’s role in fostering a stronger connection between DBKK and the local community.

“As DBKK marks its 25th anniversary, Dapur Kita-Kita stands as a testament to our commitment in supporting meaningful charitable programme that brings us closer to those in need,” he said in a speech delivered by DBKK Director General Lifred Wong.

Tunku Mariamz and her entourage also paid courtesy calls on Head of State, Tun Musa Aman at Istana Negeri, and Chief Minister Datuk Hajiji Hj Noor at his official residence at Sri Gaya.

The entourage would be visiting several places of interest, including the Women and Children’s Ward at Likas Hospital and Sawit Kinabalu, among others in the next few days.
