THE Department of Science and Technology (DOST) said it has launched a pilot artificial intelligence (AI)-driven process of accessing institutional policies for students.
The digital hub, built in partnership with the Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges (CSPC) and launched on April 30, houses a collection of documents about university policies. By using AI, students without technical or legal knowledge can access the database. The platform eliminates the need to manually sift through lengthy files by using a Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers model.Science and Technology Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. said the new hub will help prevent confusion among students and democratize information.”Policies that are hard to access or understand may result in confusion and inefficiency, but with the University Policy Hub, we address this challenge head‑on. With this new hub, we are taking a step forward in strengthening transparency, accessibility and good governance in higher education,” said Solidum. The system was developed by CSPC researchers led by Joseph Jessie Oñate. It received P1 million in funding under the Good Governance through Data Science and Decision Support Systems program of the DOST’s Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (Pcieerd). The project was intended as a model for other educational institutions to follow in modernizing policy management systems through AI.”We are looking forward to many HEIs (higher education institutions) and SUCs (state universities and colleges) in the Philippines to work together and adopt this innovation to improve academic and administrative efficiency,” said DOST-Pcieerd Deputy Executive Director Niñaliza Escorial.
