The core of Aidiladha honors the ultimate act of faith demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham). According to Islamic tradition, Allah had commanded Ibrahim in a dream to sacrifice his son, Ismail. Despite the immense emotional pain, both Ibrahim and Ismail were completely willing to submit to Allah's will. Just as Ibrahim was about to carry out the command, Allah intervened, recognizing Ibrahim's devotion, and provided a ram to be sacrificed in Ismail's place. To commemorate this event, Muslims who are financially & physically able to perform the ritual of sacrifice. The meat is then carefully portioned out & distributed to friends, family, especially the poor & less fortunate. This practice symbolizes the willingness to give up one's wealth for the sake of Allah.
I've performed Hajj. Aidiladha directly coincides with the conclusion of the Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to the holy city of Makkah. Performing Hajj at least once in a lifetime is the fifth pillar of Islam. It is a powerful symbol of unity, where millions of Muslims from all walks of life, races & cultural backgrounds stand together in equality and complete submission to the Almighty. The festival serves as a poignant reminder that true devotion requires selflessness.
Muslims are reminded the “10 days of prayers prior to Hajj” that refers to the first 10 days of Zulhijjah, the final month of the Islamic calendar. In Islamic tradition, these are considered the most sacred and virtuous ten days of the entire year, even surpassing the days of Ramadan for many scholars. While there isn't a single, fixed structural prayer script, our Prophet Muhammad, SAW (Peace Be Upon Him) advised Muslims to flood their days with prayers.
I remember the 9th day of Zulhijjah is the Day of Arafah, the absolute pinnacle of the Hajj season. For those not performing the physical pilgrimage, it is a Sunnah (practice) to fast on this day. Prophet Muhammad PBUH stated that the best prayers & supplications are the those recited on the Day of Arafah.
