Nearly 7,000 travellers used the Rantau Panjang ICQS border crossing during the Aidilfitri holidays, with numbers expected to rise further
KOTA BHARU: Nearly 7,000 Malaysian and Thai nationals were recorded using the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex at Rantau Panjang, Pasir Mas during the Aidilfitri festive break.
Deputy Commander of the Rantau Panjang Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS), Bakri Sulaiman, said the figure is expected to continue rising in the coming days due to the ongoing school holidays.
He attributed the cross-border movement to people visiting family in Kelantan and southern Thailand.
“On the eve of Raya, about 3,500 people were recorded crossing the border, with over 3,000 more on the first day of Aidilfitri,” he said.
Bakri added that many Malaysians are also using the school and festive holidays to vacation in the neighbouring country.
“We have yet to receive the full figures for yesterday, but movement remains active with many travellers exiting and entering via the Rantau Panjang ICQS route,” he told reporters.
He assured that authorities will continue monitoring the situation to ensure smooth traffic flow and security at the border crossing.
