Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) Vice-Chancellor Karamjeet Singh recently felicitated the university’s shooting team during a special event on campus, recognising its members for their achievements at national and international competitions.

Congratulating the medal-winning shooters, the Vice-Chancellor commended their discipline, dedication and hard work, saying they had brought laurels to both the university and the country.

The university’s shooting contingent includes several members of the Indian national team, including Sift Kaur Samra, Ashi Chouksey, Aishwarya Pratap Singh Tomar, Maneesha Keer, Adriyan Karmakar, Abhay Singh Sekhon, Abhinav Shaw, Ramita Jindal, Harmehar Lally and Prikshit Brar.

GNDU Sports Director Kanwar Mandeep Singh said the university’s shooters had won medals at major international events this year, including the Asian Shooting Championship and the ISSF World Cup. He added that several of them had also secured selection for the Asian Games, scheduled to be held in Japan in October 2026. “Ashi Chouksey and Aishwarya Pratap Singh Tomar won gold medals at the 16th Asian Shooting Championship in Kazakhstan and qualified for the Asian Games. Maneesha Keer secured her place in the Indian team after winning a silver in the trap event at the championship,” he said.

Abhinav Shaw won a silver medal at the Asian Championships in Jakarta earlier this year before claiming a gold at the World Cup in Germany, where he also set a world record in the 10m rifle event.

Adriyan Karmakar won a gold at the Asian Shooting Championship in New Delhi and established a world record in the 50m rifle three-positions event. Sift Kaur Samra claimed a gold at the 16th Asian Shooting Championship in Kazakhstan and bagged another gold and a silver medal at the Asian Shooting Championship in New Delhi.

Harmehar Lally won a bronze in the skeet event at the ISSF World Cup in Morocco, while Abhay Singh Sekhon secured a bronze at the Asian Shooting Championship in Kazakhstan.

Ramita Jindal finished among the top five at last year’s Olympics, and also represented India at the World Cup.

Harsh Gupta won two gold medals at the Asian Shooting Championship in New Delhi, and the 16th Asian Shooting Championship in Kazakhstan.

Prikshit Brar also represented the university at the Asian Shooting Championship in New Delhi.

“GNDU is emerging as a powerhouse in sports, especially shooting, and we have been working to provide a healthy sporting ecosystem built on quality coaching, institutional support, and the determination of athletes to excel at the highest level,” the VC said.
