
Patients visiting the Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialities (AIMSS) will soon get improved MRI testing facilities as the hospital is set to install a Three-Tesla MRI machine costing approximately Rs 25 crore within the next month.
Addressing a press conference here, Dr Brij Sharma, Principal, AIMSS Shimla, along with Dr Sudhir Sharma, Medical Superintendent, AIMSS, stated that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had sanctioned the machine, which will soon be installed at the hospital.
Highlighting the upcoming facilities at the hospital, they said that a track-based automated laboratory costing Rs 25 crore has also been sanctioned.
“Along with this, a Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) machine, used for advanced radiological treatments, costing Rs 10 crore has been approved for AIMSS. Additionally, various posts on an outsourced basis have been sanctioned for the institution. These include 100 staff nurses, 10 lab technicians, 10 radiographers and 10 OT assistants. Eight posts of assistant professor have also been sanctioned for recruitment through the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC) under the DME cadre,” they said.
Expressing their gratitude to CM Sukhu, they said that it was due to his support that the hospital had been made fully functional within a short span of time.
“At present, AIMSS Chamiana has super-speciality departments of neurology, cardiology, urology, gastroenterology, plastic surgery, endocrinology, CTVS and cardiac anaesthesia. The daily OPD footfall at AIMSS Chamiana exceeds 1,000 patients. In May alone, 12,267 OPD patients were attended to, while 975 patients were admitted under IPD care,” they said.
“The Radiology Department has conducted around 737 ultrasound examinations, 548 CT scans and 2,176 X-rays to date, reflecting the hospital’s growing capacity and efficiency. Within the last six months, significant milestones have been achieved, including the operationalisation of a 24×7 in-house laboratory, a 24×7 Blood Storage Centre and 24×7 CT scan and X-ray services. Apart from this, dialysis facilities and hospital emergency services have also been made available,” they said.
They further said that the CM has been instrumental in providing the latest robotic surgery system costing Rs 29 crore as part of his progressive vision, and that 245 robotic surgeries have been performed to date.
“Further, Rs 2.54 crore has been sanctioned for the purchase of consumables required for robotic surgeries,” they concluded.
