AIR quality in Manila improved Tuesday afternoon, with three monitoring stations, recording “Good” levels and two others registering “Fair,” after several stations reported unhealthy conditions earlier in the day, according to the Manila Public Information Office (PIO).
As of 2 p.m., “good” air quality was recorded at Puregold Tayuman, Sta. Ana Hospital and Rajah Sulayman Park, while Anda Circle and San Sebastian Residences registered “Fair” levels, Manila-PIO said.
The improved readings came after three of the city’s five monitoring stations recorded “Very Unhealthy” air quality earlier on Tuesday, and the reports from two others were classified as “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups.”
Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno earlier in the day urged residents to take precautions against the poor air quality, particularly those with existing health conditions.
“It is extremely important that we wear a mask, and as much as possible, double it up because the air we will be breathing in the coming hours is not good,” Isko said in Filipino.
He also advised residents without urgent activities outside their homes to stay indoors and keep their windows closed.
“If you have pre-existing conditions and you have no important business outside, stay indoors. As much as possible, let us keep our windows closed because our respiratory system could be affected,” the Manila mayor said.
