Ajax defender Jurrien Timber admits he was tempted by a move to Manchester United over the summer.

The Holland international eventually rejected United and signed a new deal with Ajax.

"We play in the Champions League with Ajax, I can still learn a lot in the Netherlands and there is still a World Cup coming up. I still get enough top duels here. There has been a lot of interest, yes, from several clubs", Timber acknowledged.

"My agent Christopher Coffie kept me informed about the clubs that showed interest. It wasn't just all the clubs mentioned in the media. There's a reason I didn't leave. It's because I think I'm still here I've got enough to learn and I'm in the right place here. I have plans to grow further here.

"There have also been times when I thought: maybe I should go. Of course. One day you think: I'm staying. The next day a wonderful opportunity comes along that you think you can't really let go.

"The temptation of a top club in a top competition is great. Every day you think something different, also because a lot of people are talking about it. That's why you think about it a lot yourself. Making the decision to stay or go was the best decision and hardest choice of my career."
