Nurulhidayah expressed confidence that Akmal’s recent experiences would ultimately strengthen his leadership, noting that tests and pressure are often part of a broader process of personal and political growth. She observed that Akmal had remained positive despite facing emotional and mental challenges, adding that such trials are common for leaders navigating difficult transitions.

In her view, Akmal’s current journey signals that he is moving in the right direction and that the challenges confronting him now are shaping him into a stronger figure within the party. She conveyed her belief that the Umno Youth wing would benefit from this transformation, with Akmal expected to guide younger members with greater maturity and clarity in the period ahead.

Nurulhidayah made these remarks after attending a briefing session led by Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi at Dewan Merdeka, World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur, on Jan 14. The session came amid heightened attention on Akmal’s position within both the party and the Melaka state administration.

Earlier, Zahid had confirmed that he met Akmal on Jan 13 to discuss the Youth chief’s future direction and role. This followed Akmal’s public indication that he would respect and abide by decisions made by Zahid as party president, as well as by Melaka chief minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, regarding the posts he currently holds.

When asked about the tone and outcome of the meeting between Zahid and Akmal, Nurulhidayah described the discussion as harmonious and constructive. She indicated that Akmal appeared clear-headed and aware of the steps he intends to take moving forward, particularly in shaping the direction of Umno Youth.

She also suggested that Akmal has a clear vision for mentoring and guiding the younger generation within the party, emphasising leadership development and discipline. According to her, this clarity reflects his readiness to shoulder greater responsibility and to steer the Youth wing through future political challenges.

Nurulhidayah’s remarks come at a time when Umno is preparing for key internal engagements, with party leaders emphasising unity, stability and leadership renewal. Within this context, Akmal’s ability to navigate recent pressures is increasingly being viewed by party insiders as a test that could ultimately reinforce his standing and effectiveness as Umno Youth chief.
