SHAH ALAM - Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has left it to fate to determine his political future following the dissolution of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly last Wednesday.
The Merlimau state assemblyman also thanked constituents for their support, while raising the possibility of remaining in the constituency, contesting elsewhere or taking a break from politics.
“Thank you, Merlimau. Where to after this? Remain in Merlimau or move to another state constituency? Or take a break?
“May Allah SWT provide the best guidance, Thank you,” he said in a Facebook post today.
The Melaka State Legislative Assembly was dissolved on Wednesday to pave the way for the state election.
Akmal had previously said he would not contest in the election if Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) were to cooperate, citing his commitment to party principles over his position as an elected representative.
However, Melaka BN chairman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said BN had yet to finalise any political cooperation with other parties for the state election.
He said BN had also not begun negotiations, although no date had been set, adding that discussions would be held in the near future.
In the previous state election, Akmal won the Merlimau seat with a majority of 3,248 votes, defeating Azrin Ab Majid of PH and Abd Alim Shapie of Perikatan Nasional (PN).
