Alas Pilipinas bows out of AVC Women’s Cup medal contention after loss to Taiwan

CANDON, Ilocos Sur — Alas Pilipinas crashed out of the medal race in the 2026 Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Women’s Cup after suffering a straight-sets defeat to Taiwan, 25-16, 25-14, 25-10, on Thursday at the Candon City Arena.

The loss dropped the Filipinas to a 2-3 win-loss record at the end of pool play, officially ending their semifinal hopes. Taiwan, meanwhile, remained unbeaten at 4-0 and is set to face South Korea (3-0) on June 12 for pool supremacy.

Despite the setback, Alas Pilipinas will still compete in the classification phase, where they are expected to battle for either fifth or seventh place. Their next match is scheduled either Saturday or Sunday.

The result marked a stark contrast from last year’s campaign, where the Philippines stunned Taiwan in a thrilling five-set victory en route to a historic silver-medal finish in the 2025 AVC Cup.

This time, however, Alas Pilipinas failed to replicate that magic, settling instead for a chance to salvage a respectable finish in the tournament.
