HAIKOU, China — Alas Pilipinas boys’ Terrence Marticion was fueled by his team’s opening-day blues in the 2026 Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Boys’ U18 Volleyball Championships.
The 16-year-old Surigao del Sur pride lifted Alas with his 16-point output on 15 attacks and a block to allow his team to prevail over Bahrain in four sets, 25-22, 13-25, 25-23, 25-14, on Monday at the Wuyuan River Gymnasium.
Marticion was part of the Alas team that settled for an 11th-place finish in the 2024 Bahrain edition of the tournament.
With many lessons learned from his previous stint two years ago, the Batang Pinoy star took a moment to enjoy the victory.
“First of all, I am really thankful that we got our first win, and we will do better in our next game,” the 6-foot-2 gunner told The Manila Times.
The outside spiker of VNS Griffins also shared that the straight-set loss to Iran on Sunday became a motivation for him to play harder.
“This time I am so eager to fight. Last time, we lost, and we are inspiring ourselves to be better and use that loss as an inspiration. I know that we’re underdogs, but we will keep putting up the fight.”
“Tomorrow, we will treat the game the same. We will show more discipline and will be eager to win since it is a must-win [versus India].”
Marticion was a Batang Pinoy 2025 national champion in beach volleyball.
Alas Pilipinas will try to win over India in their next clash on Tuesday, 1 p.m, at the same venue.
