SEREMBAN – Controversial businessman Albert Tei has not ruled out the possibility of contesting in the upcoming Negeri Sembilan state election, scheduled for Aug 1.
Tei, whose real name is Tei Jiaan Cheing, 37, said he is still considering the matter but admitted that his decision is nearly finalised.
“There is a party that has offered me a chance to contest and I am still in the process of considering it, but it is almost certain.
“Besides, many of my friends and social media followers are hoping that I will contest in this election. I may announce my decision next week,” he said when contacted by Sinar on Thursday.
However, he declined to reveal which party had extended the offer, but said he is eyeing the Chennah state seat, currently held by DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke.
He said his intention to contest in Negeri Sembilan stems from dissatisfaction with the leadership of Pakatan Harapan (PH) and DAP, which he claims has failed to fulfil promises made to the people.
“I have never been a member of any political party because my struggle has always been on a personal capacity.
“But perhaps the Negeri Sembilan state election will be my first step into politics,” said the Kuantan-born businessman.
Previous reports stated that Loke has confirmed he will defend the Chennah seat in the upcoming election.
He first contested the seat in the 13th General Election (GE13) and won with a majority of 1,098 votes after securing 5,128 votes, defeating the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate.
In the 2023 Negeri Sembilan state election, he retained the seat with a majority of 2,200 votes after obtaining 5,888 votes, defeating a Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate.
Before contesting in Chennah, Loke was the Lobak assemblyman.
