Marcelino is set to be named Villarreal coach.
The former Yellow Submarine trainer is in line for a return, with his appointment potentially being confirmed today.
Pacheta was sacked as coach last week, having only been in charge for two months after he had replaced Quique Setien, who was dismissed at the start of the season.
After defeat to Atletico Madrid yesterday, caretaker coach Miguel ngel Tena stated: "Starting tomorrow we will see what happens and it will be the ownership that will have to report (to the public)."
Veteran defender Ral Albiol also said: "The coach will want to take the team and train it. We must adapt to his ideas because we come from many system and game changes and it is not easy. The last year has been complicated and we hope that everything will go better now."
