Liam Rosenior has put the onus on Alejandro Garnacho to earn a starting place for Chelsea against Aston Villa, following his recent performances in training.

Pedro Neto’s sending-off during the Arsenal game piled even more pressure on Chelsea’s already fragile season.

Chelsea have now set a new Premier League record with nine red cards in a single campaign, an issue that needs to be sorted if they have any hopes of holding onto a Champions League spot.

And with Estevao Willian currently sidelined, Liam Rosenior finds himself short of options once again ahead of Aston Villa.

Even though he’s been far from his best lately, it looks like Alejandro Garnacho might get the chance to start on the left wing. It’s a big opportunity for him to show he can make an impact.

Liam Rosenior has praised Alejandro Garnacho, who is getting closer to another start for Chelsea (The Standard).

“We have got to take into account that Garna is 21 – he’s got huge ability and huge potential.

“For any young player, the biggest thing to be challenged is your consistency level, but he’s showing really good signs, not just in training but in meetings, that he’s on a really good track.

Garnacho also won over fans when he turned up early at Stamford Bridge and made time for supporters before the match. With Pedro Neto now serving a suspension, there may never be a better opportunity for him to make his case.

Who should start in place of Pedro Neto?

Neto’s absence has opened up another tactical headache for Liam Rosenior heading into what could be a pivotal visit to Villa Park. With Jamie Gittens and Estevao Willian both still nursing hamstring injuries and not expected back for several weeks yet, Garnacho appears set for another chance on the left wing.

The case for choosing Garnacho over Fernandez comes down more than anything else right now simply due to there being so few options available out wide due to fitness problems. His mindset has been impressive since returning from injury as well as his impact off the bench against Arsenal when down a man provided encouragement about what he might offer when starting regularly again.
