MANILA, Philippines — Following a historic Wimbledon run, Filipino tennis ace Alex Eala is on track for a tournament seed and a first-round bye at the WTA National Bank Open in Toronto, Canada.
The competition will run from August 2 to 13 and it will be Eala's first 1000 tournament in the Tour's hard-court swing return.
She will first play first in the 500-tier Mubadala DC Open from July 27 to August 2, marking her return from a 3-week break.
Eala is set to jump four places from No. 32 to a new career-best No. 28 on July 13 following her fourth-round finish in Wimbledon.
If she stays in the top 32 until the National Bank Open's seeding cutoff on July 27, she will be seeded and receive a first-round bye, jumping straight to the second round (round of 64).
Players just outside the top 32 who make deep runs in tournaments like the 250 UniCredit Open in the week of July 13 and the WTA 500 Hamburg Ladies Open in the week of July 20 might leapfrog Eala in the rankings and push the Filipino ace outside the top 32, though.
