MANILA, Philippines — Filipino tennis ace Alex Eala is set for a new career-high in the WTA rankings and her highest seeding in a Grand Slam tournament.
In the official ranking update on Monday, Eala is likely to hit a new best rank of No. 18, which will also be her seeding at this year's US Open — the final major of the year, running from August 30 to September 13 in New York.
Eala's previous highest seeding was No. 29 at Wimbledon last July when she became the first Filipino seeded singles player in a major.
In the live rankings on Sunday, Eala already achieved the No. 18 rank with 2,221 points following a third-round exit at the Cincinnati Open.
That's a 2-notch improvement from her career-high No. 20, which she achieved after capturing her first WTA title at the Mubadala D.C. Open on August 3.
