MANILA, Philippines — Alex Eala displayed tremendous grit but world No. 2 Elena Rybakina proved to be to good to handle as the Filipino sensation yielded to the Kazakh, 4-6, 3-6, in the third round and exited the WTA 1000 Italian Open late Sunday in Manila.
World No. 42 had her moments but Rybakina just knew when to turn it on and keep the former at bay to advance to the last 16.
Eala beat Magdalena Frech and Wang Xinyu to reach the last 32 and pocketed a prize money of €46,080 or more than P3.2M.
