MANILA, Philippines — Alexandra "Alex" Eala slipped one spot to No. 46 in the latest Women's Tennis Association (WTA) official rankings on Monday, one day before she makes her Linz Open debut in Austria.
American Peyton Steams rising from No. 46 last Monday to 44 this week with 1,296 ranking points is what caused Eala's drop.
Steams had 1,237 points last week but upgraded it to 1,263 following a round of 16 finish at the Charleston Open, sporting a net gain of 59.
Eala's 1,255 points last week stayed intact, having no points to defend in the tournament week that just passed.
Steams' ascent also dropped Czech Marketa Vondrousova who was at No. 44 last week.
Like Eala, Vondrousova did not lose points either as her 1,263 from last week remained untouched.
Eala faces World No. 89 Julia Grabher of Austria to start her Linz Open campaign in the round of 32 on Tuesday.
