MANILA, Philippines — Filipino tennis ace Alex Eala and American great Venus Williams advanced to the WTA 500 Bad Homburg doubles quarterfinals after dispatching the Aussie-American duo of Alexandra Osborne and Catherine Harrison in the first round (round of 16), 6-3, 6-4, in Germany late Wednesday night in Manila.
Williams and Eala held serve in the 10th game of the second set to face the No. 2 seed Slovak-British pair of Tereza Mihalkova and Olivia Nicholls.
Mihalkova and Nicholls defeated the Chinese duo of Jiang Xinyu and Xu Yifan, 6-2, 6-3, in their first round clash.
