It’s that time of the year again when celebrities converge on the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan to show off their fashion creativity in a night of luxury organised by Vogue under the direction of the legendary Anna Wintour. It’s been dubbed the most prestigious fashion event in the world, and for good reason. Each year has a specific theme, and the world waits to see who is able to pull it off fabulously.
This year, the theme is “Costume Art”, with “Fashion is art” as the specified dress code. Like previous years, many waited to see the creativity of the outfits on the red carpet.

Though the majority of people see this year’s Met Gala outfits as disappointing, there were still a few fabulous stand-outs. Sabrina Carpenter wore a Dior dress made out of film, which was from an Audrey Hepburn film called—surprise, surprise—Sabrina. Anne Hathaway donned a dress that bore a design inspired by Grecian pottery. Heidi Klum decided to be an actual marble statue.
But the internet bemoaned that most of the attendees either ignored the dress code or decided to take the lazy route. Most of the outfits could be outfits for any other event, a missed opportunity for a night as big as the Met Gala. Some netizens found other outfits funny, like Sam Smith’s Christian Cowan ensemble. But for the most part, the internet was left wanting.
