If there’s one thing Malaysians truly love, it’s nasi kandar. We enjoy it at any time of the day and never seem to get tired of it. However, these days, the price can be quite expensive.
In a recent Facebook post by Nasi Kandar Sulaiman, the restaurant posted a picture of a plate of seafood with the caption that goes:
“RM69. This is a new record.”
The caption revealed that this was the priciest plate of nasi kandar that the restaurant ever sold. However, the price is surprisingly reasonable given the rising cost of seafood, particularly in Malaysia these days.
The restaurant even shared a breakdown for each price of the dish, as well as the gentleman who purchased the plate of nasi kandar.
“Big squid: RM8.00, normal squid: RM7.50 x 3, shrimp: RM7.50 x 4, lamb: RM7.00 and rice: RM1.50”
Netizens promptly joined the conversation to express their thoughts.
“People say that if you want to know whether a person is rich or not, look at the dish they choose when eating nasi kandar.”
“This is definitely something you could only eat once a year. Collect 19 sen per day and you’ll get RM69. Start collecting early of the year and eat at the end of the year.”
“How many people are eating this? I feel like five people could eat this.”
While a majority of netizens said RM69 for nasi kandar is expensive, some netizens said that they’re actually considered cheap.
“RM69 is actually considered cheap.”
“That’s considered cheap already. Usually, it would cost RM50 per squid in Sabah, and shrimp would be around RM18.”
