A MAN alleged to be linked to a drug trafficking network, widely known by the alias “Bagok”, has pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court in Langkawi to charges of drug abuse following his recent arrest by Kedah narcotics authorities.
The accused, identified as 47-year-old local labourer Zuhaimi Saad, entered his plea before Judge Mirza Mohamad after the charge was read out by a court interpreter on Thursday.
According to the charge sheet, Zuhaimi was accused of consuming amphetamine and methamphetamine during an inspection conducted at the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division office at the Langkawi district police headquarters at 11.05pm on April 10.
He was charged under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a maximum prison sentence of seven years and up to three strokes of the cane upon conviction.
The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Aqlima Azizi, while the accused appeared unrepresented.
During proceedings, the court was informed that Zuhaimi had previously been convicted under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act in 2023, resulting in a six-month prison sentence and three years of supervision.
The accused was again sentenced in 2024 to seven months’ imprisonment and two years’ supervision for another offence under the same legislation.
The court subsequently denied bail and fixed June 25 for further mention of the case and document submission.
The case has drawn heightened public attention following reports that Kedah’s Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department arrested “Bagok” on May 16 in connection with alleged drug distribution activities in Langkawi involving a police officer believed to be associated with a larger organised syndicate.
Authorities revealed that the suspect has 12 previous criminal records, including offences under Section 302 of the Penal Code, Section 7 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971, Section 160 of the Penal Code, five records under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act and three prior offences under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act. - May 21, 2026
