A 22-year-old e-hailing passenger has died after a car, allegedly driven against traffic by a military officer believed to be under the influence of alcohol, crashed head-on into the vehicle on the Maju Expressway (MEX) this morning.

According to Malay Mail, Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said preliminary investigations found that the 31-year-old suspect had entered the opposite lane before colliding with an e-hailing MPV.

A breathalyser test conducted at the scene showed that the suspect had exceeded the permitted alcohol limit.

Victim died at scene, others injured

At the time of the crash, the MPV was carrying two Bangladeshi passengers, a man and a woman, who had just arrived from Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

The male passenger, who was seated in the middle row, was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering severe head injuries.

The 20-year-old female passenger sustained bodily injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

The 41-year-old e-hailing driver also suffered head injuries in the incident.

Suspect and passenger also hurt

The suspect, who is a military officer, sustained minor injuries.

A 36-year-old local woman who was travelling with him in the car was also injured.

All injured parties were taken to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for further treatment.

Driver arrested, case under investigation

Police confirmed that a urine screening test conducted on the suspect came back negative for drugs.

He has since been arrested, and the case is being investigated under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs and causing death.
