GLOBE Telecom Inc.’s partnership with global IoT (Internet of Things) aggregator Aeris should help position the telco capture emerging commercial opportunities in the sector as adoption speeds up across the region, a report by Fitch Solutions unit BMI said on Tuesday.

The partnership, made through Globe’s enterprise unit, Globe Business, is seen helping the telco capture early growth in the Philippines’ nascent IoT market.

IoT refers to a network of physical objects embedded with sensors, software and technologies that enable them to connect and exchange data over the internet without human intervention

Through Aeris’ IoT Accelerator (IoTA) platform, Globe Business will be able to deliver unified, secure and scalable IoT connectivity solutions for key verticals including automotive, smart cities and smart manufacturing, BMI said.

Commercial launch of the partnership is targeted for the third quarter this year, it added.

The move was said to fit in with Globe’s strategy to expand its enterprise service portfolio and to differentiate its enterprise services, capitalizing on rising IoT demand and leverage the Asia-Pacific’s strong IoT market.

Asia-Pacific remains the world’s largest IoT market, BMI said, accounting for an estimated 82 percent of global cellular machine-to-machine (MTM) SIMs in 2025.

The report projected that regional M2M SIMs would increase from 3.2 trillion in 2025 to 7.1 trillion by 2034.

It noted that automotive original equipment manufacturer (OEM) enablement and the shift to software-driven vehicles (SDVs) represent key use cases for Globe to expand mobility services both domestically and across the APAC region.

Globe “aims to leverage its enterprise segment’s capabilities in network mobility to provide advanced AI, end-to-end deployment, automation, orchestration and security of complex enterprise use cases,” BMI said.

It noted that that Globe’s corporate data segment reported annual revenues of P20.7 billion last year, up 1.5 percent from a year earlier, underpinned by robust growth in information communications technology-related services.

Globe Telecom shares on Tuesday rose P2.00, or 0.12 percent, to close at P1,680 each.
