JOHOR BAHRU - Amanah remains a relevant political force among Malay voters in Johor and continues to enjoy support across racial lines, says the party's vice-president and Larkin candidate Suhaizan Kaiat.
Rejecting suggestions that Amanah's influence among Malays has weakened, Suhaizan pointed to the party's strong performance during the 2018 general election as proof of its appeal.
"In 2018, Amanah won nine seats in Johor as part of Pakatan Harapan. That did not happen by chance. It showed that Johoreans, including Malay voters, had confidence in Amanah and our struggle," he told Sinar Daily.
He said Amanah's strength lies in its inclusive and moderate approach, which resonates with the state's multiracial society.
"The people of Johor are made up of Malays, Chinese and Indians living together. Amanah's image has always been about harmony and inclusiveness. That is why we received support in the past and why we remain relevant today," he said.
Suhaizan also dismissed concerns that the unity government had blurred ideological differences between former political rivals, insisting that Amanah's reformist principles remain intact.
"We believe in unity and in bringing people together. Malaysia's diversity is one of our greatest strengths.
"When Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim formed the unity government, it showed that different parties can work together for the nation's interests," he said.
He said Amanah's political philosophy has always centred on moderation and national unity rather than division.
"We do not want politics that excludes people. We want everyone to sit together and work for the country.
"This is good for the nation and it is also good for Amanah's image," he said.
He said the party remains particularly confident of defending and winning urban and mixed constituencies in Johor.
"We have good prospects in urban and mixed seats such as Kota Iskandar, Permas and several other constituencies. Overall, we are confident of winning around 10 seats in this election," he said.
He added that the party's grassroots machinery has been working hard to reconnect with voters and present itself as a stable and inclusive alternative in Johor politics.
