Amar’e Stoudemire pushed back on doubts about Taylor Swift’s New York Knicks fandom after her NBA Finals appearance became part of a wider debate.
Swift was at Madison Square Garden for Game 4 against the San Antonio Spurs, a night that ended with the Knicks completing a historic comeback and moving within one win of the title.
The attention around her courtside appearance quickly turned into a question of whether she was a real fan or simply attached to the moment.

Amar’e Stoudemire says Taylor Swift has real New York Knicks history
In a clip shared by TMZ on X, Stoudemire defended Swift’s connection to the franchise and pointed back to his own time with the Knicks.
“She’s a Knicks fan, from my understanding. I mean, back when I played, we had a great friendship. She was able to come to Knicks practice. We took her through the basketball court,” the Knicks legend said.
He added, “We had her dunk the basketball and sat down and had a beautiful conversation with her and her family. It was a great time. I think, honestly, she’s a Knicks fan.”
That answer matters because Stoudemire is not guessing from a distance. His Knicks years overlapped with Swift’s early public connection to New York basketball, giving him direct context for why her Game 4 appearance was not as random as some critics suggested.
Taylor Swift’s New York Knicks doubts grew after Monica McNutt’s Game 4 comment
The debate around Swift’s loyalty took off because of a comment made during Game 4 coverage.
Monica McNutt questioned whether Swift was really a Knicks fan after spotting her at Madison Square Garden, and the remark quickly spread across social media.
That gave fans a simple argument to latch onto: was Swift a long-time supporter, or just another celebrity arriving once the Knicks reached the Finals?
The backlash also came quickly. Swift supporters pointed to older Knicks links, including her past connection to Stoudemire, while McNutt later acknowledged she had not known that background when she made the remark.
Game 4 only made the debate louder. The Knicks beat the Spurs 107-106 after erasing a 29-point deficit, and Swift was soon folded into the good-luck-charm conversation around one of the biggest wins in franchise history.
Stoudemire’s answer does not require every fan to see Swift as a diehard. It does, however, give her Knicks affiliation a real history, and that is exactly what the bandwagon argument was missing.
