On Thaipusam Monday, an old friend from Scotland came to town. She wanted something different for breakfast, not the usual roti canai or thosai we are accustomed to on a public holiday like Thaipusam.
So, we invited her to Momaku Baristart Cafe at Bangsar Shopping Centre.
Baristart Coffee is a new Hokkaido-born outlet "serving specialities of food and beverages fuelled with Hokkaido milk."
Baristart started as a humble Sapporo coffee stand in 2015 but has now expanded to Singapore and KL with plans to enter Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines next.
"The brand prides itself on harnessing premium milk from brown Jersey cows raised in the Hokkaido town of Biei. This milk is coveted for its high butterfat content, richly creamy with sweet hints." (EDKL)
As a coffee enthusiast, I love their latte which has "a velvety smoothness and clean, natural flavours, crafted with Mavam under-counter espresso machines with a reputation for consistent shots." (EDKL)
To accompany her latte our guest ordered Brick French Toast that looked fabulous and tasty with every bite. It took her quite a while to finish the meal. It's huge!
I had an egg white souffle while my wife settled for smashed avocado on toast, a healthy unassuming breakfast.
We talked about old times in 1990s when kids were growing up and BSC was nowhere what it is today.
But in the end the conversation came back to how tasty the coffee was because of the fresh Hokkaido milk.
It went so well with brick French toast, egg white souffle and smashed avocado on toast we had to have another cup each.
They're really good stuff. You must try the coffee at least.
It was just what we needed on a quiet Thaipusam monday morning when not many people were up and about.
