AMD has finally announced what gamers have long been asking for, as their FSR Upscaling 4.1 technology is officially coming to more of their hardware. And it won’t just be their older graphics cards either, with AMD announcing support for FSR 4.1 on APUs and even Xbox consoles.
With the release of AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.10.1, AMD is pushing out FSR Upscaling 4.1 support to Radeon RX 6000 series GPUs, Ryzen AI Max series APUs, Ryzen AI 9 300 and 400 series APUs as well as the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme, Ryzen Z2 Extreme & Ryzen Z2A APUs. On top of that, AMD is working to bring FSR 4.1 to Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles too.

FSR, or FidelityFX Super Resolution, is essentially AMD’s take on upscaling technology, allowing gamers to have their hardware render the game at a lower resolution and then get machine learning to boost image quality and sharpness, getting you more FPS than if you ran it at native resolution. FSR 4.1 in particular brought significant improvements to previous attempts at upscaling by AMD.

How much performance gained exactly remains to be seen of course, but in some examples shown by AMD, we can already see the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme getting better frames than FSR 3.1. That being said, the main benefit of FSR 4.1 upscaling compared to its predecessors will be the boost in image quality when using these upscaling solutions, meaning gamers can get longer use out of their hardware without needing to buy new parts or devices.
Those using laptops or desktop PCs powered by these supported APUs and graphics cards can check out FSR 4.1 upscaling already in supported games by updating your Adrenalin drivers. As for the ROG Xbox Ally series, it seems that it will arrive in a preview update via Armoury Crate later this month, with full release soon after. Xbox console users meanwhile will have to wait a little longer though, with AMD merely confirming that it will be coming soon to Xbox consoles.
