KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia Stadium Corp has collaborated with sport surface testing and consulting firm Labosport to prepare the National Stadium’s pitch for British pop star Ed Sheeran’s concert tonight and the 2026 World Cup qualifying match against Oman on March 26.

“The Stadium Corp has removed and transferred 1,900 square metres of grass where the stage and audio system tower will be placed for Ed Sheeran’s concert.

“The grass that has been moved will be given intensive care, watering and fertilisation so that the health of the grass is at optimum level.

“Other than that the Stadium Corp is ready to use grass from its nursery if necessary,” it said in a statement today.

It added that the existing nursery has a total of 2,000sqm of grass to cover the needs of the National Stadium’s field.

Work to dismantle all the equipment from the concert will start as soon as the concert ends and work on the field will start immediately after that.

Previously, Stadium Corp came under heavy criticism after the pitch at the National Stadium was in poor condition after British rock band Coldplay’s concert on November 22.

This led to it issuing an apology to the Malaysian Football League, Johor Darul Ta’zim and Terengganu FC after failing to prepare the field to ‘optimum levels’ for the Malaysia Cup Final on December 8. – February 24, 2024
