Former Italy striker Nicola Amoruso says Walter Mazzarri can surprise people at Napoli.
Mazzarri has been appointed as Napoli coach to June after the dismissal of Rudi Garcia.
Amoruso told TMW: "He certainly needs to relaunch himself in big football and has an important opportunity. It is difficult to make plans, but if he does very well I believe that Napoli can continue with him.
"Super-established technicians would hardly have said yes to such a short agreement, but Mazzarri is underrated for what he has done and for how he makes his teams play."
On Mazzarri keeping the job into next season, Amoruso added: "It will depend a lot on how it goes from now until the end. If he achieves his objectives by working well, why change? It's all in progress, he knows it, he knows the place, he knows what it needs and he also knows De Laurentiis well.
"I believe that his contract will be renewed without problems if he does well."
