
The district administration has begun preparations to tackle any potential flood situation during the forthcoming monsoon season, holding a review meeting on flood protection measures. Chairing the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Dalwinderjit Singh instructed officials from various departments and the Border Security Force (BSF) to remain prepared.
The Deputy Commissioner said the administration had initiated advance planning following directions from the Punjab Government. He directed officials to ensure all necessary arrangements were completed well before the rainy season so that there would be no shortage of essential materials during emergencies.
He ordered the establishment of flood control rooms at both district and sub-divisional levels, with proper staff deployment. The Animal Husbandry Department was asked to complete vaccination of animals in flood-prone areas in advance.
PSPCL officials were instructed to take preventive steps to protect substations located in villages along the Ravi from possible water damage, ensuring electricity supply remains unaffected during floods.
The Deputy Commissioner urged all departments to remain vigilant and ensure proper arrangements to deal with any emergency. He emphasised that the administration was fully committed to safeguarding the lives and property of residents, and every possible step would be taken for public safety.
The Drainage Department was directed to work in coordination with BSF officials to immediately address any breach or obstruction in the flow of river water. Officials were also told to keep rescue equipment and machinery ready in advance and strengthen monitoring in flood-prone areas.
The DC said he would personally inspect the preparedness work being carried out by different departments and warned that negligence would not be tolerated.
Among those present at the meeting were District Revenue Officer Navkirat Singh Randhawa, BSF Deputy Commandants PK Dwivedi and RS Gautam, along with officials from the PWD, health, horticulture, water supply and pollution control board.
