A city-based trader and gym owner has alleged that despite repeatedly submitting complaints regarding extortion demands and death threats, no concrete action has been taken by the authorities, leaving his family living under constant fear.

Chandeep Singh, a resident of Sultanwind Road who runs a gym and a tiles showroom in the city, said he has been receiving threatening WhatsApp calls and voice messages from unknown international numbers for the past two-and-a-half months. The callers allegedly claim links to a notorious gangster network and initially demanded a large sum of money as extortion.

According to Chandeep Singh, after he refused to pay and stopped responding to the suspicious calls, the threats intensified. He alleged that the callers are now openly threatening to kill him and his family members.

In a fresh complaint addressed to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav and Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, he stated that he had earlier lodged a complaint and received only an acknowledgment stating that the matter had been forwarded for necessary action. However, he claimed that no police official has contacted him and no visible progress has been made in the investigation.

The businessman further alleged that the callers had threatened to blow up his residence, forcing the family to live under constant fear and severe mental stress. He said the continuing threats have adversely affected both his personal life and business operations.

Questioning the delay in action, Singh asked whether the authorities would act only after a tragic incident had occurred. He demanded the immediate registration of an FIR, identification and arrest of the accused, police protection for his family and strict legal action against those responsible.
