A 49-year-old shop owner was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly stabbing a fruit trader to death during a parking dispute at Khandsa Mandi last Sunday, police said.
The accused, Jai Bhagwan alias Seetu of Hira Nagar, was arrested from Sonipat by the Crime Branch, Sector 40. He was produced in a city court and taken on two days of police remand. Police said the sharp weapon, a sua, used in the murder will be recovered during remand.
According to police, they received information from a hospital on May 24 about the death of Bharat Bhushan, 55, a resident of Khandsa Mandi. A police team found that he had died of injuries sustained in a fight.
In his complaint, the deceased’s brother said the incident took place around 5:00-5:30 am on May 24. They were parking their fruit cart in front of their shop when Rahul, from a neighbouring shop, objected and called the shop owner Jai Bhagwan. “As soon as Jai Bhagwan arrived, he started arguing and attacked my brother Bharat Bhushan in the chest with a sharp object. He fell unconscious,” the complaint stated. Bharat was rushed to the hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered at Shivaji Nagar Police Station under relevant sections.
“During police interrogation, it was revealed that the accused committed the crime in a fit of rage following a dispute over parking,” said Naveen Sharma, ACP Crime, Gurugram.
Police said Jai Bhagwan has two prior cases under the Gambling Act registered against him in Gurugram. Further questioning is underway.
