Max Verstappen vents frustration after Red Bull retirement in Chinese GP

Speaking after the race in comments to ViaPlay, Verstappen reacted angrily to another disappointing result for Red Bull during the Chinese Grand Prix.

“I don’t know either how that happened. Yup, the same again. Always have to go from the back, might as well start there too,” Verstappen said.

The Dutch driver had already faced a difficult opening lap after dropping from eighth on the grid to 12th following a slow launch.

Things went from bad to worse later in the race when Verstappen’s Red Bull suddenly lost power with around ten laps remaining.

While running in sixth place, his car appeared to lose drive exiting Turn 6 and the screen on his steering wheel briefly shut down.

With the issue unresolved, Verstappen limped the car back to the pits before ultimately retiring from the race.

The Red Bull driver later detailed just how many issues he felt were affecting the car during the race.

“We didn’t have balance, a lot of deg, to be honest, a lot went wrong, car doesn’t feel good, something wrong with the steering… a whole list,” Verstappen added.

According to Verstappen, the problems were not limited to the mechanical failure that forced his retirement.

He also struggled with tire degradation and balance issues throughout the race, which made it difficult to fight further up the order.

The disappointing result added to a challenging weekend for Red Bull as the team continues to search for improvements in the car’s overall performance.
