An open letter for Alex Eala’s bashers and haters

Dear bashers, Ahem, ahem (clearing my throat).

I am sure all you bashers and haters of Alex Eala are very delighted to see her failing to make it past the Wimbledon 2025 quarterfinals.

The criticisms you can hurl at her can be numerous: a weak serve; lack of stamina; no real talent; and pure hype.

Sorry, I am not joining your chorus. Especially those saying she has no talent and is pure hype.

And keep reading because I want to challenge your brain cells.

You see, as a sports fan and sports writer, Eala is occupying my mind rent free. You guessed it – she is in my mind without paying any rent.

But then, Eala is in my mind because she is worthy of admiration and emulation. For one, she is now competing with the top players – read that, top players.

If Eala was a basketball player, she would be in the NBA now. Why? Because she gets to compete at the highest levels of tennis. And she gets a lot attention for her feats.

Her third match with defending Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek was an epic. And Eala leading 2-1 in their matchup means a lot.

Furthermore, she is 1-1 versus Coco Gauff and that nasty and feisty Italian named Jasmine Paolini. (Oh yes, I like Paolini too, in fact) And expect Eala to have matches soon against Elena Rybakina and Elina Svtilona, both of whom she beat at Berlin in two straight sets.

Why? Because tennis tournament organizers know future matches of Eala against Rybakina and Svitolina are crowd and eyeball drawers. Metrics matter a lot in getting sponsors for big tennis events.

Also wait for the day she matches up against Emma Raducanu and Mira Andreeva, both of which are prone of inconsistencies.

Eala beat Andreeva in the juniors, and the Russian did not hexhibition in Hong Kong in late 2025. And did I get it right that Andreeva thanked Eala for not going full throttle in their exhibition match? I know what you bashers will surely say: Eala is 2-0 against Iva Jovic and Elena Noskova. Yeah.

But this isn’t boxing where one bad loss can badly affect the future of an athlete. At that match with Noskova at

Berlin could have gone either way if Eala did not sustain an injury in the second set.

There is also no such thing as an undefeated player in tennis. Also, 30 or plus year old tennis players are also able to beat the best up and coming tennis stars like Eala, Andreeva, Gauff, and Jovic. You can add Victoria Mboko to that list.

So, what the hell am I saying here? Truth is, I want the mind of bashers and haters to go into overdrive again just to find ways to bash or hate Eala. Because that proves Eala is very much in their mind. And with those, bashers and haters end up the real losers, because anyway, Eala can just ignore you while she gains more fame and fortune.

Read that – Eala has no time reading the comments of bashers and haters.

Anyway, if you are a basher or hater and your blood is boiling against me or I forced your mind into overdrive so you can think of arguments to put down my views on Eala, then let me tell you this – I am laughing hard, really hard.

Why not think of positive ways to use your cognitive function? And like it or not, Eala has made her mark and has lots of good years ahead of her. And she is improving.

No less than the legendary or the GOAT of tennis strongly stated that Eala is a “super star” and not a rising star anymore, acknowledging the her coming from the Philippines also presented challenges as our country does not have the ecosystem to develop top-notch tennis players.

Need I say more? Anyway, if you are a basher or hater. Thanks for reading up to this point, Adios.
