Ramadan is the most awaited month of this year where everyone joins together to enjoy some amazing Iftar feasts. During the month of Ramadan, the faithful abstain from food and drink between dawn and sunset, and are also expected to control our tongue and temper. Meals are taken before dawn and after sunset. The real most amazing part of Ramadan is that it is filled with numerous blessings of Allah where we all congregate for prayers and thank Him for His uncountable blessings on us.

This month of Ramadan, the fourth pillar of Islam has its own charm where we look forward to celebrate it by planning Iftar with our loved ones at their favourite place. Iftar is the meal eaten after sunset for the breaking of fast. As a normal practice, passed the age of puberty, Muslims are required to fast during the month of Ramadan.

Children are not obliged to fast until they are about 8 or 9 years old. However, from an early age, they join the celebratory Iftar in the evenings, and they watch adults around them fasting throughout the day. My grandkids aged aged 4 and 6 want to be able to fast like their siblings aged 9 and 10 years old. Actually, it is more about culture than religion, but it may be a bit hard on the child to be able to do it. Depending on what part of the world we are, it may be 12-15 hours before we can eat.

We have grandkids who want to imitate the adults. It is about a young 4 year old girl named Ilyan and a 6 year old boy, Yadh who wanted to be grown-up and struggle to keep their first fast on Ramadan despite in kindergarten, they have to patiently watching their classmates enjoying eating as usual. It is really challenging indeed  to teach our young ones about fasting in Ramadan. I feel that it is easier to convince toddlers and preschoolers to fast in Ramadan provided they've the strong willpower!
