It is that time of the year where Muslims have started fasting. During the month of Ramadan, Pasar Ramadan will be mushrooming in almost all the housing areas all over Malaysia. This is also the time when Non-Muslims will try to fast for the whole day just like the Muslims. This is to enable them to understand what their Muslim brothers and sisters experience and also to understand the hardship experienced by the less fortunate. Unlike the less fortunate, all those who fast during Ramadan know that after a certain period of fasting they will be able to break their fast with delicious food. Infact sometimes there are people who seem to have a feast every time they break their fast.

I look forward to the fasting month since this is the time small time business people will start their business to sell foodstuff that is not normally sold. There will be stalls with very creative and catchy phrases to attract customers. This is the time when the business people are not afraid to experiment and try out new recipes. I had the opportunity to attend the Pasar Ramadan nearby my place in Batu Sembilan Cuepacs. It is just about 5 minutes drive from my place. There were not that many stalls today but there were a lot of choices.

Just as my husband and I walked towards the stalls, we saw Malaysians - both Muslims and Non-Muslims queueing up at the various stalls to buy a variety of food. The most popular stall was the Murtabak and Roti John stall. People from all walks of life were there. Some stopped on the way back from their office and even school children stopped by after school to buy food and drinks to break their fast. The man selling the Roti John immediately recognised my husband since my husband  has been his regular customer for years. He was really glad to see my husband and chatted with him as he prepared my husband's order.

I looked around to see what else was being sold. A banner caught my sight. It was on fresh mango juice but what I saw in the container was actually lime with asam boi.  Just beside the Roti John stall there was a drink stall which sold apple juice with asam boi. That is something I plan to lry out in the new future. I also intend to try out a drink called "Katira" and  another called "Blue Lemon". During this time we get to see the cooperative, understanding, tolerant and loving side of Malaysians as they queue up to buy food from the different vendors. To all Malaysians I wish you Ramadan Mubarak.
