Following her bronze medal finish in the previous Asian Games, Olympian weightlifter Elreen Ando fell short this time and placed fifth in her event on Friday in Nagoya, Japan.
During Friday’s final in the women’s 61-kilogram division, Ando lifted a total of 224 kilograms (101 kg in snatch and 123 kg in clean and jerk).
China’s Yang Liuyue won the gold medal with a world record lift of 251 kg (112 kg in snatch and 139 kg in clean and jerk), with North Korea’s Pak Jin-hae getting the silver at 248 kg and Tokyo Olympic champion Kuo Hsing-chun of Taiwan bagging the bronze medal at 237 kg.
Kristel Macrohon will be the country’s next hopeful in the women’s weightlifting events, as she competes in the women’s 69 kg division on Sunday.
