Haryana’s Energy, Transport and Labour Minister Anil Vij has directed that Sadar Bazaar Chowk be renamed ‘Maharana Pratap Chowk’, and that Nicholson Road, where Maharana Pratap’s statue is installed, be renamed ‘Maharana Pratap Road’ in Ambala.
Vij has written to the Executive Officer of the Municipal Council, Ambala Sadar, instructing that necessary action be initiated at the earliest.
Vij had provided Rs 50 lakh from his discretionary fund for the installation of the statue of Maharana Pratap.
On May 9, on the occasion of Maharana Pratap Jayanti, a 12.5-foot-high and 16-quintal statue of Maharana Pratap was unveiled at Sadar Bazaar Chowk by the minister. A large number of people from the community, along with city residents, participated in the event. The statue has been made from ‘panch dhatu’ (five-metal alloy). It was created by renowned Jaipur sculptor Mahavir Bharti.
