SHAH ALAM - The Malaysia Animal Association (MAA) has urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation into an incident where a foreign national deliberately caused the death of a cat.

Its president Arie Dwi Andika expressed concern after a photo was shared on the association's Facebook page, showing a cat hanging with its neck trapped in the window frame of a house in Persiaran Intan Hulu Langat, Selangor.

"Residents noticed the incident around 10am on Friday, and a police report was filed at Batu 9 Cheras Police Station, Hulu Langat, Kajang on June 3.

"The purpose of the report was to initiate a comprehensive investigation into the cat's mistreatment under the Animal Welfare Act 2015 provisions.

"However, according to witnesses and residents, no follow-up action was taken by the police, leaving the case seemingly unresolved," he said on Facebook today.

Arie voiced his concerns, stating that animal cruelty is a grave offence and can be punishable under the Animal Welfare Act 2015.

"MAA urges the authorities not to tolerate or underestimate such crimes, as there is a concern that this could set a dangerous precedent, leading to further acts of cruelty against animals and possibly even humans," he added.
