Anna Faris has revealed she has been sober for a year and a half, after saying she was “hurt” by remarks made by Chuck Lorre, the showrunner of her sitcom Mom.
Faris, 49, said on Instagram: “Yikes. Yes, I read a few things. I really didn’t see that coming. Of course it hurts.
“Chuck gave me a job I loved, and for seven years I never took a day of it for granted.
“I’m proud of what we made together, and noting changes how grateful I am for those people and those years.
“I’ve been sober for a year-and-a-half.
“I was on a show about recovery and then I lived it. Now I’m healthy, I’m working, and I’m happier than I’ve been in a long time.
“If anyone reading this is where I was, I hope that’ useful. It gets better. I’m proof.”
Lorre, who also created Two and A Half Men and The Big Bang Theory, made the comments in his new memoir Sitcom.
He wrote that Faris’s unexpected departure from the show validated his initial doubts about casting her.
Lorre claimed in the memoir that Faris left the show “for mysterious reasons that were not mysterious to anyone on the show”.
Faris starred in the sitcom for seven seasons, from 2013 until 2020, before it continued for an eighth season without her.
The series follows Christy Plunkett, a single mother who restarts her life after dealing with alcohol and substance abuse.
Faris starred opposite Allison Janney on the show, and has previously spoken about being sober after struggling with her mental health and taking a step back from acting.
Speaking on the Dear Chelsea podcast, she said: “I was at a point in my life when I was kind of feeling that my career was being put out to pasture a little bit.
“I was just having a distant relationship with this city and my career and wondering if I had enough money to retire.”
She went on to say that she felt “disturbed by my lack of ambition” and that in hindsight was “pretty depressed” without recognising it.
Faris rose to fame as Cindy in the Scary Movie franchise, and reprised the role for the sixth film, which was released earlier this summer.
She also starred opposite Leslie Mann, Isla Fisher, and Michelle Buteau in the comedy Spa Weekend.
Faris shares a son, Jack, with her ex-husband, the Hollywood actor Chris Pratt, from whom she divorced in 2017 after eight years of marriage.
