
Kota Kinabalu: A 25-year-old Chinese tourist drowned while diving around Mamutik Island at 2.20pm on Saturday, the second such tragedy in three months (pic).
The victim was among a group of seven, including a diving instructor. It is understood that everyone else had returned to the beach except him.
According to city police Chief, ACP Kasim Muda, two staff eventually found the victim and proceeded to administer CPR.
“The victim was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 4.10pm.

However, an autopsy will be carried out to identify the cause of death,” he said.
Investigations are still ongoing and the case is classified as a sudden death report.
In March, a 51-year-old Chinese man had also drowned while snorkelling in Sapi Island.
There were five deaths and 19 injuries involving Chinese tourists in 2022 and 2023.
