RANAU: A female climber injured her mouth and leg after a fall while climbing down Mount Kinabalu Friday, prompting swift action by the Auxiliary Fire Officer Mountain Search and Rescue (MoSAR) unit.
Ranau Fire and Recue Department Chief, PPgB Ridwan bin Mohd Taib said the incident happened at 11am at Kilometer 5 of the Mount Kinabalu Summit Trail near Vilossa Hut.
He said, the 44 year old victim was climbing down with a mountain guide but misstepped a slippery surface.
“Following the incident, Mosar received an emergency call.
“Eight Mosar personnel with a mountain guide and five Sabah Park staff rushed to the location to give initial treatment to the victim. After that, the rescuers brought down the victim using a Robinson stretcher to the Timpohon Gate,” he said.
Ridwan said after the rescue group arrived at the Timpohon Gate, the victim was then rushed to the Ranau Hospital in the EMRS vehicle for further treatment.
He said the incident involving the female climber became the first reported case for July and 32nd on Mount Kinabalu this year.
Ridwan reiterated his call on future climbers to do a self-health assessment before climbing.
