A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after a collision involving a sport utility vehicle and a multi-purpose vehicle left six people injured on the Kajang–Semenyih Bypass in the early hours of the morning.
Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said the incident occurred at approximately 1.20am and involved a Range Rover Velar 2.0 and a Mazda E1800 Wagon.
“The SUV lost control before crashing into the rear of a van, causing the vehicle to overturn onto the left shoulder of the road.”
He added that the SUV driver was unharmed, but the driver of the MPV and five passengers, aged between seven and 51, sustained injuries and were taken to Hospital Kajang and Hospital Serdang for treatment.
Police investigations found that the 51-year-old SUV driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. He has since been detained and remanded for two days to assist with further investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 44(1A) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries severe penalties upon conviction.
“Anyone convicted of this offence can be imprisoned for not less than seven years and not more than 10 years, and fined between RM30,000 and RM50,000,” he said. - March 31, 2026
