A suspected drunk driver crashed into a van on the Kajang-Semenyih Bypass, injuring six people, including children, leading to the driver’s arrest.

KAJANG: Police have arrested a 51-year-old man suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol after his vehicle crashed into a van and injured six people, including children.

The accident occurred at about 1.20 am on the Kajang-Semenyih Bypass when a Range Rover Velar SUV, driven by the suspect, suddenly lost control and struck the rear of a Mazda van.

The impact caused the van to overturn onto the left side of the road, injuring its driver and five passengers aged between seven and 51 years old.

All six victims are receiving treatment at Kajang Hospital and Serdang Hospital, while the SUV driver emerged from the incident without injury.

Kajang district police chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof confirmed that the suspect has been remanded for two days to assist with the investigation.

The case is being probed under Section 44(1A) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which pertains to driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Authorities have urged members of the public with any information regarding the incident to contact investigating officer Sergeant Nurul Shaffika Mohd Shair.
