Anthony Davis tricked Austin Reaves into thinking the Los Angeles Lakers guard owed two fans $500,000 and two cars.
The prank worked because it did not start with chaos. It started like a harmless charity contest, which made Reaves believe he was helping with something real.
That is also why Jenna Barber’s role mattered. Davis used someone Reaves trusted to make the entire setup feel normal before the panic hit.

Anthony Davis used Austin Reaves’ girlfriend to sell a fake Los Angeles Lakers charity contest
As seen in a Bleacher Report clip, Davis teamed up with Barber to prank Reaves on his show ‘Foul Play with AD.’
The setup placed Reaves at a fake charity endurance contest, where four actors pretended to compete by keeping their hands on a new car for as long as possible.
Before the contest got serious, the fake participants spoke to Reaves about their personal stories and how much winning would mean to them. That detail made the prank sharper because it gave him a reason to care about the outcome.
The prize was massive as well. The winner was supposed to receive a car and $250,000, so Reaves thought he was standing in the middle of a life-changing giveaway.
Barber helped keep the scene believable. With his girlfriend involved, Reaves had less reason to suspect Davis was waiting behind the curtain.
Anthony Davis made Austin Reaves believe the Los Angeles Lakers guard ruined two prizes
The prank turned when the contest came down to two remaining competitors. Reaves was supposed to control the buzzer, but Davis secretly triggered it himself before either contestant had properly lost. That made it look like Reaves had ended the challenge early.
The actors then blamed him for ruining the contest. Because there were two people still standing, both demanded the prize, which turned the fake mistake into a $500,000 problem and two cars.
That is when the joke landed. Reaves looked stuck between confusion, guilt, and disbelief as the room pushed the blame onto him.
Davis eventually came out and revealed the prank before embracing his former teammate. The moment worked because their friendship made the setup feel playful rather than cruel.
Reaves did not owe anyone $500,000, but Davis still got exactly what he wanted: a priceless reaction from the Lakers teammate he still calls his guy.
